Hawker Typhoon RB396 Restoration Project Launch

It was a very interesting afternoon yesterday (29th Oct 2016) at the Hawker Typhoon RB396 Restoration project launch, held at former RAF Westhampnett (Goodwood), where Typhoons and its successor the Tempest operated from during World War II, as they did from RAF Manston.

Their project is to restore a Hawker Typhoon 1B as authentically as possible, back to flight as only the second complete Typhoon in existence (and the only combat veteran).

You can follow the campaign at their Facebook page Hawker Typhoon RB396 Restoration, and http://www.hawkertyphoon.com/ where you can also read about Typhoon JR523 piloted by P/O MacKenzie who took off on a mission from Manston on the 3rd January 1944 but never returned. Part of that aircraft will be used to help the restoration. They are also on Twitter at https://twitter.com/project_typhoon(@project_typhoon).

If you happen to be in the possession of any authentic Hawker Typhoon parts, technical information, drawings, tools or tooling, or know of their whereabouts they would love to be informed. Likewise if you wish to donate to this restoration or join the supporters club, keep an eye on their website or Facebook page for details coming soon.

The event was held in the Boultbee Flight Academy hanger, so we were surrounded by other historic aircraft and three Typhoon veterans, Flt Lt Derek Lovell, Flt Lt Rev. George Wood and Flt Lt David Ince DFC BSc FRAeS.
